About the programme
Do you want to understand globalisation processes, their course, history and impact on international relations? Are you interested in political geography and the functioning of countries, international organisations, corporations and media? Do you want to learn macroeconomic bases of world governance to understand global energy problems, challenges for international security and to get to know the most important actors involved in these processes?
The three-year Global Studies programme at the Institute of International Studies is a great chance for your intensive personal and professional development. You will learn how to analyse mechanisms governing the contemporary world of politics and economy and get to know the basics of organisation management, intercultural communication and diplomacy. You will learn to ask the right questions and to find answers to them.
Thanks to Global Studies, you will stay up-to-date on the most important events on the international scene. You will be able to analyse them and to forecast their effects. Equipped with such competencies, you will be able to take active part in the international debate on crucial challenges faced by the contemporary world and to make an essential contribution to the reflection on its development.
You will learn to combine research methods from many different scientific disciplines. Global Studies are an interdisciplinary speciality, drawing from such fields of science as economics, international relations, political science, sociology, regional studies, cultural studies, anthropology, ethnology as well as from earth science, environmental science and physics.
The completion of the Global Studies speciality will give you opportunities to work in public institutions both at the national and international level, governmental and non-governmental organisations, international trade, business, multinational corporations, media, etc. This speciality’s graduates are specialists, journalists, analysts, experts and even politicians highly valued on the market.
About the Institute
The Institute of International Studies at the University of Wrocław is one of the largest scientific research institutes of this kind in Poland. We are part of the University of Wrocław, which last year was the winner of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” competition organised by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. We carry out research in the area of international relations, communication, international security, climate protection, energy security, diplomacy and foreign policy.
We offer the possibility to attend classes run by outstanding experts in selected fields, both researchers and practitioners, as well as opportunities to participate in international exchanges and research projects. Students are supported in conducting research and pursuing their own interests. They will also have individual consultations with lecturers and support in planning and developing their careers.
Candidate’s profile
You are interested in international relations, contemporary political life, functioning of economic systems and globalisation processes.
You have graduated from secondary school with a secondary school certificate (matura). You have a good command of English (level B2) and have a certificate confirming your skills (IELTS score of 5.5 – 6, TOEFL score of 550 or other exam; this requirement does not apply to candidates who completed an English-language Bachelor Programme or English is their native language).
Global Studies constitutes a three-year programme whose graduates receive a Bachelor’s degree. It is open to Polish citizens, citizens of other member states of the European Union and non-EU candidates. There are no age limits.

Specializations
In Global Studies, you do not choose a specialisation. The Global Studies programme is an English speciality in the subject of International Relations.
Curriculum
Global Studies is a unique programme both on the Polish and on the European scale. It is focused on the analysis of globalisation mechanisms, the purpose of which is to equip students with the skill of understanding interdependencies between local and global phenomena.
The programme of studies includes courses on contemporary international relations, history of globalisation, political and economic geography, global environmental and energy challenges, European integration, international security, demographic challenges, theory of state and law, development of contemporary metropolises, macroeconomics, microeconomics, diplomacy and many other issues.
Students spend one of the semesters abroad within the Erasmus, ISEP and CEEPUS programmes. Education ends with the submission and defence of a BA thesis.
Workshops, internships, conferences
Students of Global Studies have the opportunity to participate in international student exchanges and foreign internships within the Erasmus+ programme as well as numerous bilateral agreements with world-class universities. Each student has a scholarship guaranteed under the Erasmus+ programme.
Students may also take part in summer schools organised by the University of Wrocław and other European universities, as well as in international scientific conferences organised by universities and professional organisations (e.g. the International Studies Association, AIESEC, AEGEE). They may participate in lectures and classes run by lecturers visiting our university within the Visiting Professors programme and in activities of student scientific organisations.
In the inter-semester period, they have the opportunity to do an internship in international companies operating on the local market (Credit Suisse, UBS, IBM, Google, LG, Toyota, Volkswagen, Lufthansa, Daimler, Amazon and many others), organisations (e.g. the representation of the European Parliament, diplomatic representations, commercial and economic chambers, etc.), think tanks or cultural institutions.
Diploma
After graduating from the Global Studies speciality at the Institute of International Studies of the University of Wrocław, you will obtain a Bachelor’s diploma in international relations, with a Global Studies speciality.
