“I have decided not exactly to become a philosophical polyglot, but rather to avoid remaining a monoglot, and first of all to avoid being the echo of a monoglot, even if they are a genius and a friend.”
This quote from Gilbert Ryle, a famous Oxford philosopher, who lived in the 20th century, is particularly important for me as it indicates the value and importance of independent thinking in philosophy, but also its challenge.
I am a professor at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Wrocław and cooperate with PhD students in the Doctoral School of Philosophy. I carry out research in the field of social and political philosophy and am the author of many books, e.g. “Psychopathology in Political Life”, “Two Concepts of Unity. Philosophical and Political Interventions” or “Politics and Recognition. Towards a New Political Aesthetics”, a translator of other philosophers and the editor-in-chief of “Studia Philosophica Wratislaviensia”.
Moreover, I am engaged in social activities and political journalism. I comment upon the recent events of Polish and international politics from my own perspective and the consistently antagonistic concept of society and politics.
I deal with philosophy as it gives me the freedom to think, which no other scientific discipline may offer. At the same time, philosophy imposes the strictest requirements which discipline even the freest ideas. In work with students, I focus on encouraging them to choose research issues and conduct their analysis independently.
