“Today more than half of the population lives in cities. We need to understand cities to understand the contemporary world.”

Urban areas account for only 7% of Poland, but 60% of the Polish population live there. Also in the global perspective, cities play a crucial role as the centres of world development. We need to understand cities to understand the contemporary world.

I am a sociologist and lecturer in the Intercultural Mediation specialisation. I lead classes on urban studies as well as research methodology and methods. In my scientific work, I mainly deal with suburbanisation and reurbanisation processes, i.e. the revival of urban and rural areas.

The development of cities and management of urban space have a great impact on processes of social development and social integration. In the Intercultural Mediation specialisation, we invite students to explore together such issues as migration to cities or challenges connected with transformations on the housing market. We analyse bottom-up activities of residents who work actively to improve the quality of their lives in estates and districts.

The most important thing in my work with students is to freely exchange thoughts and to question obvious phenomena and truths. My students may count on substantive support at each stage of their research work – from the formulation of first ideas for research to the creation of reports on the basis of data obtained.

Do you want to learn more about my scientific interests? I recommend several articles that I have written:
